Help for Trauma Survivors
Have you ever experienced something that upsets you so much that you can’t get it out of your mind? Now imagine if it that something was truly horrific such as seeing a person on fire? Trauma victims may re-experience these memories over and over again. These memories may continue on into their sleep as nightmares.
The first thing we do in treatment is talk about what happened and how it has impacted on the client’s life. Then we reprocess the traumatic memories so that the fear network in the brain is defused. This will bring about a reduction in anxiety, irritability and the triggering of traumatic memories.
Once this occurs we look at how the traumatic event has disrupted the client’s sense of security, sense of enjoyment, social ties and outlook. In therapy we work on rebuilding these foundations so individuals can reconnect with their own strengths and develop a fresh outlook that enables them to resume their normal their lives. We will work with the client to rekindle hope, stabilize acute symptoms and regain functioning. The aim is to help the client get back to work and enjoy life again with increased levels of resilience.
If you are experiencing trauma help is out there.
